Jon Williams, known artistically as Johnny Dark, is a visual storyteller whose work spans photography, film, and design. His journey began at just 12 years old, when he first picked up a camera and discovered a passion for capturing moments that would quickly become a lifelong pursuit.
By 17, Jon had already made his mark—winning his first award for a short film at a local independent theater and shooting his first wedding for a high school teacher. During his senior year, he worked with his school district’s TV station, where he gained hands-on experience with professional broadcast equipment and filmed his first major concert. That moment solidified what he already knew—this wasn’t just an interest, it was an obsession.
Driven to push further, Jon immersed himself in the study of light, color, and mood—learning how the world transforms from day to night and how to translate that into visual art. His early experimentation led to multiple short films and ultimately to film school, where he earned an associate degree in Film and Cinematography.
After graduating in 2005, Jon continued refining his craft across a wide range of video and visual projects. In 2008, he moved to Las Vegas, where his perspective expanded even further. There, he had the opportunity to work on a Hollywood-budget production, The Tree of Life, gaining invaluable industry experience.
It was during this time that he purchased his first professional Nikon camera and began to shift his focus more deeply into photography. His philosophy was simple: if he could tell a story at 24–35 frames per second, he could master the art of capturing a single, powerful frame.
From that idea, Johnny Dark was born. Johnny Dark represents creative freedom—an artist without limits. Under this name, Jon explores a wide range of subjects including weddings, family portraits, nature, fashion, still life, and fine art, bringing a customized, client-driven vision to every project. Each piece is crafted to be unique, blending technical skill with artistic expression. This vision led to the creation of Custom Angle Studios in Columbia, South Carolina—an innovative space designed to connect clients with the right artist for their specific vision.
The studio became a hub for collaboration, allowing people to explore different creative styles under one roof while ensuring every project was matched with the perfect artistic approach.
Today, Jon Williams and Johnny Dark exist as two sides of the same creative force: Jon Williams — the professional, grounded and precise. Johnny Dark — the visionary, bold and limitless. Together, they deliver more than images—they create experiences, emotion, and perspective through every frame.
